HAPPY EASTER

ONE VERSE WE DON’T OFTEN THINK ABOUT DURING EASTER IS THE FOLLOWING;

He disarmed the rulers and authorities” – Colossians 2:15

He disarmed the rulers and authorities. The cross of Christ marks the decisive defeat of the demonic powers. On the cross, they were stripped of their power to accuse Christians before God. (Gk. diabolos, “devil,” means “accuser, slanderer.”) Nevertheless, these demons continue to exist and to exercise power to incite evil, so Christians must continue to struggle with them (see Eph. 6:12, 16). put them to open shame. This is the same term (Gk. deigmatizō) used in Matt. 1:19 to refer to Joseph’s unwillingness to expose Mary’s pregnancy and bring public shame on her. The cross publicly reveals the failure of the demonic powers to thwart God’s plan of salvation through Christ (see 1 Cor. 2:6–8).

triumphing over them. The image is of a triumphal Roman military procession. The defeated king with all of his surviving warriors and the spoils of war were paraded through the streets of Rome, as a public spectacle for all to see.

We need to see that the Resurrected Christ is actually ridiculing the dark powers. That as Hebrews 2:10 states in the KJV he is the captain of our salvation.

Christ is identified here as the captain (Gr archēgos) of our salvation. The word is also used of Christ in Acts 5:31 (as a leader) and in Hebrews 12:2 (as a founder or originator). Since both ideas fit this text, the thought might be that Christ is both the Author and Captain of our salvation.

The idea is also present that our captain is the First, and in front, leading us to the Father. That he goes not only before, but more importantly ‘for’ us. The word ‘captain’ also has the in it’s context the idea of ‘originator’, after all the he is the Chosen One, that even in creation he is the instrument of all creation.

I hope that this Easter it is a time of celebration and that whether with real family (whatever that means) or with the body of Christ you get to joyously celebrate the true meaning of Easter. ( you still get to eat the ears off the chocolate bunny).

God bless.

The beauty of adversity

It is good for us to have trials and troubles at times, for they often remind us that we are on probation and ought not to hope in any worldly thing. It is good for us sometimes to suffer contradiction, to be misjudged by men even though we do well and mean well. These things help us to be humble and shield us from vainglory. When to all outward appearances men give us no credit, when they do not think well of us, then we are more inclined to seek God Who sees our hearts. Therefore, a man ought to root himself so firmly in God that he will not need the consolations of men.

‎When a man of good will is afflicted, tempted, and tormented by evil thoughts, he realizes clearly that his greatest need is God, without Whom he can do no good. …

Thomas à Kempis. (1996). The Imitation of Christ (19). Oak Harbor, WA:

As I mentioned before, this is one of the top three books I recommend to you for you to read. I cannot some days read more than one sentence because it is so piercing.

Speaking of piercings; I met a Christian tattoo artist today, I don’t want to debate whether Christians can get tattooed or not, that’s a discussion for another day, I personally have no tattoo’s.

But I like the banner on his truck, it shows the crucifixion of Christ and says; “these piercings saved my life”

As we get ready for Easter we need to remember that the bible is not a book about how evil and nasty mankind is, but how great and gracious our God is.

WARNING THIS POST CONTAINS ADULT SEXUAL LANGUAGE OF A VERY FRANK NATURE, PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED OR LEGALISTIC

THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID THERE ARE THINGS SO SHAMEFUL WE SHOULD NOT TALK ABOUT THEM. I DON’T THINK I’VE CROSSED THAT LINE BUT IT MAY BE CLOSE. I MEAN NO HARM AND DON’T WANT TO OFFEND SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

FIRST A QUOTE FROM A MOVIE, IT’S NOT THE BIBLE BUT IT WILL KICK OFF THE DISCUSSION. ‘YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THE POWER OF LOVE UNTIL YOU COMPLETELY SURRENDER TO IT.’ (( I DON’T REMEMBER THE MOVIE BUT IT’S STILL A GOOD LINE)

WOMEN HAVE THE POWER TO CREATE BY GIVING BIRTH, MEN HAVE THE POWER TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL WIVES WHO ARE FULFILLED AND HAPPY BY BEING MEN WHO LOVE THEIR WIVES MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS EARTH.

SO HERE’S WHERE WE GET INTO A SENSITIVE AREA, SEX; IF YOU WANT TO BLESS YOUR WIFE PRACTICE GODLY SEX.  THAT MEANS NOT FORCING YOUR WIFE TO HAVE SEX WHILE ON HER PERIOD ( BECAUSE YOU THINK SHE HAS TO SUBMIT AND THIS PROVES SHE’S A GODLY WOMAN) REALLY, IF YOU ARE THAT KIND OF HUSBAND AND YOU WERE STANDING HERE IN FRONT OF ME I’D PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE. (GODLY COUNSELING DOESN’T SEEM TO WORK )

ONE THE BIBLE SAYS YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE SEX DURING THIS TIME. HEY HOW ABOUT THAT, GOD KNOWS WHAT SCIENCE HAS PROVED. THE UTERINE WALLS OF A WOMAN ARE WEAKER DURING THIS TIME AND IT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS. AND REALLY YOU HAVE TO FORCE YOUR WIFE TO PROVE SHE’S SUBMISSIVE, THAT ONE IS GOING TO BACK FIRE IN YOUR FACE.

PLEASE DON’T READ ANY FARTHER IF YOU ARE REALLY SENSITIVE.

ANAL SEX, IT’S WRONG, DON’T CARE WHAT SEX IN CITY SAYS, SEX BOOKS, PORN, ITS WRONG, IT GOES AGAINST BIOLOGY AND IT GOES AGAINST THE BIBLE; I DON’T CARE IF YOUR PARTNER EVEN LIKES IT; GOD IS STILL GOD EVEN IN THE BEDROOM. YES YOU CAN PRACTICE HOLINESS EVEN IN THE MARRIAGE BED AND THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY THE MARRIAGE BED IS UNDEFILED AND ANYTHING GOES. IT SAYS WE ARE TO MAKE THE MARRIAGE BED UNDEFILED. GOD DOES NOT CONDONE ‘FREAKINESS’ IN THE BEDROOM OF A CHRISTIAN COUPLE.

I BRING THIS UP BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN THE DAMAGE THIS ATTITUDE AND THE DAMAGE IT CAN WREAK IN A CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE.

A WOMAN WAS BASICALLY BEING ABUSED BY THE ABOVE IN A CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE. THE MAN DIDN’T RESPOND TO COUNSELING. SO SHE DECIDED TO POISON HIM. NOT TO DEATH JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE HIM SICK TO HIS STOMACH AND HE WOULDN’T FEEL LIKE HAVING SEX AND SHE WOULD BE SAFE AND SOUND.

THE AMOUNT OF GUILT SHE RACKED UP WAS GIVING HER MIGRAINES, EVENTUALLY SHE INSISTED THEY GO BACK TO COUNSELING AND UNDER THE THREAT OF DIVORCE CONVINCED THIS MAN TO STOP ABUSING HER.

I’M HAPPY TO SAY THEY ARE STILL MARRIED, AND HE DID STOP, BUT HOW CAN CHRISTIAN MEN BE SO WRONG, AND YET BELIEVE THEY ARE SERVING THE LORD AND DOING NO HARM. IT’S A LIE AND THUS THE DEVOTION FOR TODAY MAY BE UNPLEASANT AND NOT JOYFUL YET IT IS NEEDED IN OUR VERY POLLUTED CHRISTIAN HOMES AND MARRIAGES.

SORRY IF THIS PARTICULAR DEVOTION WAS UNPLEASANT BUT REMEMBER MEN, THE APOSTLE PAUL ALSO SAID WE ARE TO SUBMIT TO OUR WIVES AS WELL; PLEASE BE GODLY MEN, EVEN IN THE BEDROOM.

GOD BLESS.

1 john 1:7-10

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Walking in the light, through the Word of God the indwelling Holy Spirit shows the Christian the he;

1; still possesses the old nature (vs 8)

2; still needs the forgiveness of sin (vs 9-10)

The very blood of Christ is the divine solution for the both problems.

To walk in the light is to have constant fellowship with God and his Son. It is our sin that interrupts this fellowship, we must choose whether we want to be carnal believers and have no regular fellowship, no direction or guidance in our lives because of sinning, or have the regular benefit and joy of constantly being in his presence and feeling led and blessed.

The choice is ours, regular daily blessings or a life of grief and carnal benefit, but still saved.

Sin interrupts fellowship but cannot alter the relationship. Confession restores fellowship and immediately confessing after carnal acts keeps the fellowship unbroken.

You would think we would always make the wise choice, alas we often don’t; and unfortunately we are told to ‘get saved again’ when the problem is realizing that a simple prayer of confession and a contrite heart will fix the feeling of separation, which we often confuse with being lost and out of the economy of God. When nothing could be farther from the truth, we have strayed, not fallen out of His Grace.

My sheep hear my voice, you can always come back home, that’s the marvelous story of God’s grace.

God Bless

The curse part II

So here’s a story to go along with yesterday’s devotion.

There’s this family, husband, wife and two kids, boy and a girl. The parents are WASP’s (white anglo saxon protestant) and very naïve and really ignorant of the realities of the world, having both been home schooled and very sheltered by their parents. (I’m not against home schooling so no protests).

They can’t have children, so they adopt two kids from South America, according to them from some impoverished tribe deep in the jungle, (I thought all tribes deep in the jungle were impoverished). These kids hit 11 and nine, the boy being the oldest, and all hell breaks loose, and the parents have seceded just about all control to these two kids.

Three years go by and the parents have given all hope, the marriage is in the toilet, the kids are running the show, the boy who is the oldest is turning violent. The daughter is now 12 and might be sexually active; when the parents (in name only) try to ground her and talk to her about purity she spits on them and sneaks out at night through the window.

A missionary from South America shows up at their church and talks about tribal demons, curses, voodoo, after the service the desperate parents go to him and they explain how all has gone wrong with these kids that they adopted and they are sure that after hearing him speak that they are demonic children.

This guy conveniently has a “word from the Lord” and tells them the kids are cursed by a blood line curse because their grandfather is a witch doctor. ( no proof just the magic word from the Lord). So somehow they have heard about me and that I’ve done cult abductions and other weird stuff, and that I’m the guy to fix their problems.

Solution, I tell them let me come and have dinner at their house and observe them. I’ll come back the next day and spend the day with them. Talk about a nightmare, a literal food fight, the cussing and yelling (by the kids) the parents are fighting with each other, its total bedlam.

The parents beg me to exorcise their kids break the curse, do some Christian magic ( my term not theirs). So my suggestion, let me take the kids away from them and place them in Boysville for at least one year, with the condition that no matter what happens they cannot rescue their kids from there.

The kids willingly go; the parents are relieved, I tell them to come in for marriage counseling for at least 6 weeks. All is going fine, I visit the kids every week the house parents who are Christian, say that these are two of the most challenging kids they think they have had in a long time.

Long story short, the kids stay at Boysville until they graduate from high school, they become A+ students, both accept the Lord, the boy goes on to bible college the girl starts doing student missionary work and the parents are convinced it’s all an act, “just wait” they say.

Well 25 years later they kids are still serving the Lord, the parents have the “I hate you forever cause it’s all your fault marriage, but hey we are Christians we can’t get divorced let’s just make each other miserable.”

So there was no bloodline curse, no voodoo, no demons, just no parenting skills, no enforcement of boundaries, and a house divided falls; the kids were smarter than the parents and ruled the household.

Moral of the story, we shouldn’t blame the devil for all our problems, let’s be honest about what the real problems are before we start looking for ‘demons in the closet’.

God bless and peace to all. Easter is fast approaching, hope you are excited.

Don’t believe this lie

Two lies you don’t want to believe and again this may be foreign theology for some but that’s why we are covering it because it’s bad theology.

Lie number one; bloodline curses.

Lie number two; nation curses, or nationality curses.

There are actually spiritual idiots out there that as the apostle Paul says are preaching for the sound of their own voices, and to tickle the ears of the foolish or vain.

One favorite preacher/teacher now long time departed Donald Barnhouse who  preached a great sermon about Jack Ass preachers, with long ears with bells on them, love to hear themselves talk, or as he said listen to their own ‘braying’.

The two lies are similar versions of the same lie and can sneak into your life and cause you much needless suffering.

First the bloodline curse, this is the lie that you are prone to sin, a particular sin because of your parents, especially if you look like one of them or have learned negative traits that are similar to theirs.

So If your father was a rageaholic ( I know spell check is going nuts) then it make sense that you are also cursed to be a rageaholic. (rage + addicted to rage), it’s a learned behavior pattern, not a curse of bloodline. Sounds simple but unlearn the negative behavior; don’t blame it on a curse, or that demons can taunt you and hound you because it’s a family curse, you need deliverance, no such thing.

Reason number uno, and primary reason why its not true, is when you accepted Christ as your savior His bloodline became your bloodline and even if the curse was true it was broken by His resurrection and the fact that His sacrifice (blood) was acceptable as final payment to God.

The nationality curse, i.e. I’m Irish so I’m supposed to fight and drink, demons encourage it, they haunt me, tempt me, prompt me because the Irish are cursed, prone to depression, etc. very similar to the bloodline curse but it’s still hooey.

Never blame your actions on something external,(ok i’m really going to date myself, remember Flip Wilson, ‘the devil made me do it’) never blame your actions on something like your race, nationality etc. yes some nationalities are more prone to alcoholism then others but that’s genetic not a curse.

The problem with curses, (even though Lon Chaney in the wolfman is probably my favorite movie) they have one purpose and that is to make you feel helpless or not in control, more hooey, you and you alone will stand before almighty God and give account for all your actions and motivations, and believe me there is no scripture to support a bloodline curse, (except that of being related to Adam and the sin of all mankind).

The other problem there is always some high and mighty super Christian snob, goody goody know it all that thinks they have super powers and have a deliverance ministry, more hooey, only you and your relation to Christ can deliver yourself. You don’t have to ‘take authority’ over anything, just believe in the work of God through his Son and bang, instant deliverance (speaking of deliverance and movie themes, absolutely hated the movie, I wouldn’t going canoeing or camping for years).

So don’t believe the lie, there is no demonic ties to your behavior, which as a bonus I going to throw in a free lie, if you are a Christian you cannot be cursed because you touched a crystal, or touched a Ouija board at a garage sale, etc. because we are blood bought, purchased and sealed, kept by God; so stop struggling so much and relax in Christ, not RIP, but RIC , hey maybe that will become as popular as WWJD.

*John 3:16** -**I don’t understand it.

**A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner,

the people were in and out of the cold.

The little boy was so cold that he wasn’t trying to sell

many papers.

He walked up to a policeman and said,

“Mister,

you wouldn’t happen to know where a poor boy could

find a warm place to sleep tonight would you?

You see, I sleep in a box up around the corner there and

down the alley and its awful cold in there for tonight.

“Sure would be nice to have a warm place to stay.”

The policeman looked down at the little boy and said, “You

go down the street to that big white house and you knock

on the door. When they come out the door you just say

John 3:16 and they will let you in.”

So he did. He walked up the steps and knocked on the

door, and a lady answered. He looked up and said,

“John 3:16.” The lady said, “Come on in, Son.”

She took him in and she sat him down in a split bottom

rocker in front of a great big old fireplace, and she went

off. The boy sat there for a while and thought to himself:

John 3:16… I don’t understand it, but it sure makes

a cold boy warm.

Later she came back and asked him “Are you hungry?”

He said, “Well, just a little. I haven’t eaten in a couple of

days, and I guess I could stand a little bit of food,”

The lady took him in the kitchen and sat him down to a table

full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn’t eat

any more. Then he thought to himself:

John 3:16… Boy, I sure don’t understand it but it sure

makes a hungry boy full.

She took him upstairs to a bathroom to a huge bathtub

filled with warm water, and he sat there and soaked for a

while. As he soaked, he thought to himself: John 3:16 …

I sure don’t understand it, but it sure makes a dirty boy

clean. You know, I’ve not had a bath, a real bath, in my

whole life. The only bath I ever had was when I stood in

front of that big old fire hydrant as they flushed it out.

The lady came in and got him. She took him to a room,

tucked him into a big old feather bed, pulled the covers

up around his neck, kissed him goodnight and turned out

the lights. As he lay in the darkness and looked out the

window at the snow coming down on that cold night,

he thought to himself: John 3:16 … I don’t understand it but

it sure makes a tired boy rest.

The next morning the lady came back up and took him

down again to that same big table full of food. After he

ate, she took him back to that same big old split bottom

rocker in front of the fireplace and

picked up a big old Bible.

She sat down in front of him and looked into his young face.

“Do you understand John 3:16?” she asked gently. He

replied, “No, Ma’am, I don’t. The first time I ever heard it

was last night when the policeman told me to use it,”

**She opened the Bible to John 3:16 and began to explain

to him about Jesus. Right there, in front of that big old fireplace,

he gave his heart and life to Jesus. He sat there

and thought: John 3:16 . don’t understand it, but it sure

makes a lost boy feel safe.**

You know, I have to confess I don’t understand it either,

how God was willing to send His Son to die for me, and how

Jesus would agree to do such a thing. I don’t understand

the agony of the Father and every angel in heaven as

they watched Jesus suffer and die. I don’t understand the intense

love for ME that kept Jesus on the cross till the end.

I don’t understand it, but it sure does make life worth living.

**John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only

begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should

not perish, but have everlasting life.

Thank guest writer Paul.

Easter’s coming, are you ready to celebrate more than the Easter bunny?

Titus 2:12

instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, (NASB)

saving grace teaches its recipients to say no to sin and yes to godliness. In the present age stresses that this godliness is to be lived out in the here and now. It also sets up the reference to the future return of Christ (v. 13). Certainty about the future enables constancy in the present.

The same grace that saves us also trains us in the school of holiness. There are “No-No’s” in that school which we must learn to renounce. The first is ungodliness, which means irreligion. The second is worldly lusts—not just sexual sins, but also the lust for wealth, power, pleasure, fame, or anything else that is essentially worldly.

On the positive side, grace teaches us to live soberly, righteously toward others, and godly in the pure light of His presence. These are the virtues that should characterize us in this world, where everything about us is going to be dissolved. It is the place of our pilgrimage and not our final home.

TINA THE EXOTIC DANCER

NO WAIT THAT’S REALLY THE TITLE

So there’s Mark, nice guy, shy, quiet and a young Christian. He meets this girl online, she cute, perky and funny. They start dating, she has more experience than he, they start having sex, it’s his first time, bang (pardon the pun) and he’s in love and proposes. She realizes he’s a nice guy, good job and he thinks he’s in love.

She starts coming to church knows the Christian lingo, he thinks she’s a Christian. Tell them marriage counseling is mandatory, bang they elope. Come back and his excuse for not following through “love can’t wait”.

Bang, six months into the marriage Mark comes in he’s shattered, she wants to go out dancing, have some drinks, seems a lot of guys at this club know her; he’s ashamed, for the first time ever he drinks, dances, gets a little drunk, and bang, she wants to bring home another guy to ‘spice things up’.

Bang, he wants a divorce, but hey in a Pentecostal church that’s like practicing birth control in a catholic church (sorry old school). Now he’s really ashamed that he’s gotten into this situation, she moves out, he’s heart broken and hears from a ‘friend’ at work his wife is already sleeping with someone else.

He comes in for counseling and here’s where we get controversial. (now thanks to google you can look this up, I did and I have to say there are some people that are twisting what I am about to talk about right out into outer space, so filter this through your theology and pray about this, don’t take this principle to far, and don’t over apply it to some sort of spiritual warfare and setting blockades against satan, because this isn’t about that.)

The prophet Hosea is told to marry a prostitute and she runs away and here is what God says he will do.

Hosea 2:6-7

Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes;
I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way.
She will chase after her lovers but not catch them;

she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say,     ‘I will go back to my husband as at first,     for then I was better off than now.’ She has not acknowledged that I was the one     who gave her the grain, the new wine and oil, who lavished on her the silver and gold—     which they used for Baal.

“Therefore I will take away my grain when it ripens,
and my new wine when it is ready.
I will take back my wool and my linen,
intended to cover her naked body.
10 So now I will expose her lewdness

    before the eyes of her lovers;
no one will take her out of my hands.

I told this story to Mark, and told him that if what he was saying was true and he really wanted her back to pray this prayer; a prayer of hedges or thorn bushes around his wife and wait for God to do something; nothing less nothing more, just pray and wait.

The real principle here is believing God can do something, the second principle is to not feel powerless and try to do something in your own strength, the third is if God did this for Hosea cannot he not do it for you.

So we prayed that she would be unseen to other lovers, she would get no benefits from other lovers, no one would take care of her, and that as verse 7 says she will go back to her husband.

So what did Tina do, she went back to stripping (exotic dancing if you are more sensitive) and guess what, she was hired right back by her old boss because she used to be a great ‘producer’ (read cash cow, ouch that seems rather insensitive).

Six weeks later she’s fired, reason given by her boss, and I quote; “Tina, it’s like you are invisible, no one tips you, no one asks for lap dances (you are blessed if all this is foreign to you) it’s like you don’t even exist.

Ok no binding dominions, no commanding spirits or satan to let go just believing God can do his thing.

She comes back to Mark begs forgiveness and asks him to take her back. I caution him (because sometimes after being a prison chaplain I can really be cynical and I confess a skeptic, not always but sometimes).

Mark believes its God’s will to honor his vow he takes Tina back, it’s a bit bumpy at first but a year later she truly gives her heart to the Lord and is baptized (full immersion, still old school).

Guess what, they are still married and she’s expecting their first child.

Like an old time radio show, will it work out, will she truly stay ‘saved’. Stay tuned, and wait.

So also being a hopeless romantic and having some measure of faith I think it will.

And don’t believe that old saw about 50% of marriages failing, it’s the same 10 people getting divorced all the time.

God Bless

Who deserves it, or does it even matter

I was talking to a seminary professor the other day and he told me that over the Christmas break he had taken a walking tour of Scotland to enjoy hiking and especially to visit some very old churches that have stood for hundreds of years.

At one of these churches it was Sunday and it was the last Sunday for this pastor who was retiring at 94 years of age and had spent 50 years as the pastor of this tiny church, hidden in rugged terrain that most people walked to.

He said the pastor’s sermon was a homiletic master piece, it was deep, moving and a gem. He wondered how the Lord could keep such a master of preaching hidden like a rare gem from the world and how blessed this congregation was to have been guided by such a great shepherd.

He said that as he flew back to America a question began to form in his mind over who would be the most blessed, the pastor of a small struggling flock, that rarely had money, never knew fame, no books no tv shows, but a faithful pastor; or the mega pastor that touched millions and was there a difference in the eyes of God. Would the reward be different?

I asked him if had reached a conclusion and he said he had (with the foreknowledge that he was not God and this was just his humble opinion). He said that had; he believed that the faithful pastor to a small flock, faithful to the word and the work would receive a larger, better reward, because of the struggle and fight just to keep the doors open and no open earthly reward now.

Ok, it’s just one man’s opinion but I agree with him.

And the reason I’m bringing it up is I have a very good friend who is in that same exact position. 32 years at the same church, highly educated, gifted as a speaker, and faithful to the word and the craft of preaching good honest sermons with no baloney or filler at all.

And this month he will receive no salary because the church can’t afford to pay him for an entire month. He doesn’t know that I know this and what I want from all of you is to pray for him because I’ve never seen him so discouraged before.

So please keep this servant of God in prayer that like the children of God in the wilderness that he and his family will be divinely kept, that rust, and moth and corruption will not find root in any part of his life, that the car won’t break down, and no one will get sick and things will just work out; and if just one new face could show up on Sunday.

Because he has been faithful to God, and to the word and I love this guy.

This ain’t a chain letter so if you don’t pray nothing bad will happen to you (ha)

God bless and peace out.
