crazy train

April 30, 2013

The least Sin is worse than the worse affliction; so thought our Puritan fathers.

The conscious is supposed to be the mirror of the soul. Like the mind the rest of our body is totally corrupt by the fall.

The apostle Paul didn’t even trust his own thinking and constantly knew that every thought was to be captured and presented to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

The best understanding of the Greek word ‘thought’ is really “reasoning”; our reasoning is suspect.

So in reality we can’t even trust our own thinking. Now don’t go mad, or think you are crazy just realize the first idea to pop into your head may not be the best.

So how much praying do we need to do in order to not be on a ‘crazy train’; lots, so the list is getting longer not shorter ( hey nobody ever said being a Christian was easy). Watch what we say, examine what we think, who has time for carnal activities now, this is a full time job.

Don’t stress, remember the yoke of Christ is easy.

Matthew 11:29

J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)

28-30 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and over-burdened, and I will give you rest! Put on my yoke and learn from me. For I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

this is God calling

April 29, 2013

That is an innocent person asking an innocent question. If only all our thoughts of God were so simple and direct.

1 corinthians 1: 18-25

18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written; “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men…”

We can over think, try to out think, but there is a simplicity to understanding God, call it child like faith, simple faith, I wouldn’t call it blind faith, because God did give us reason; but if we simply read more of His Word and less of others, I believe we would all benefit.

So yes son, God is calling and it’s a collect call

God bless

These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; 17 do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.

Even though chapter 8 is clearly dealing with the millennial reign, there are principles here that would be good for us to follow now.

1 speak the truth

2. in our civil courts render true justice and peace

3. have no evil reside in our hearts

4. don’t lie

5. realize God hates all of these actions ( in the negative sense) and will judge a nation and it’s people accordingly.

Why spiritual gifts are still valid today,

1 Corinthians 1:7

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed

This one verse is the only proof you need that all spiritual gifts are available to all Christians still today. They did not pass away at any time.

The counter argument by the fundamentalists is often quoted as 1 corinthians 13:10, “when that which is perfect comes…” and they say that is the bible. Which is ridiculous because ‘that which is perfect is Christ.’

Take away this one verse (1 co 1:7) and I would concede the argument that spiritual gifts are gone, but hey this verse is still in my bible.

Our personal, heart-breaking failure in every phase of our Christian life is our Father’s preparation for His success on our behalf. This negative processing of His finally brings us into His positive promise of Philippians 1:6 : “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” His “good work” in us is begun through failure (and this includes our strongest points), which continues on into His success by His performance and not ours.

“stepped in it”, “screwed the pooch”, “messed up”, “wrong word at the wrong time, wrong place etc.”

We’ve all done it, FAILED, it’s the human condition, we are filled with faults. We can claim all we want that we are ‘filled with the Spirit’, but we are really filled with something else; humanity.

If we deny this part of ourselves we are either in denial, or just great liars.

You’ve heard the phrase, ‘so heavenly minded they are no earthly good’ what about so earthly minded they are no heavenly good. (ok I just made that last part up, nobody says that)

It is about balance in our life and acceptance, we have to accept that while we walk this side of heaven, we are going to make mistakes.

So make sure you forgive yourself, ask for forgiveness, and remember humility kind of hurts sometimes.

Say hi at

wrapper, keep it on

April 25, 2013

Ok it goes like this, you are a band-aid, you are in the box, in your wrapper and you are brand new.

You are a virgin, so let’s say you have your first sexual encounter, you are not in the box (protected) and you have lost your wrapper. And when you have your next sexual experience you have to peel yourself off the other band-aid; and you get stuck to the next one.

As time goes by and your sexual experiences with other people increase two things happen, less adhesiveness , and what level of sexual experience you had with the last person you will bring into the next relationship. Date a freak, have sex, become a freak, share that with someone else.

Hear the sucking sound, its your life, if you are fortunate to only have one sexual encounter with one person and it is there only encounter and you get married or are married you can see the power of the adhesiveness. But the more experiences the less ability to stick.

With our sick level of attention to sex, where little 8 year old girls look like hookers and the rate of under 12 pregnancies increase, children raping other children we are heading ( no we are already there) living in the exact age where God annihilated nations for worshipping sex.

So to you virgins, keep the wrapper on, to those who have lost their wrapper, practice celibacy, don’t go to that last level of sex you had with your last relationship.

Act like a virgin, practice purity, abstain from lustful practice, stop watching, reading viewing anything related to sex. ( I still can’t believe how many Christians read ’50 shades of grey”)

From your elder brother in the Lord.

God bless

in the can

Sounds like a contradiction, but look at 1 Kings chapter 18 and Elijah in that chapter and then look at 1 kings chapter 19 and a totally defeated Elijah appears.

Rule 1; often after a great victory, depression can set in.

Rule 2 often after a great victory, we get cocky

Rule 3 God doesn’t like cocky, or angry or frustrated, remember Moses, striking the rock, and not following God’s direction.

Rule 4 woman are evil, (kidding) except for Jezebel, there’s a reason why that term still has stuck around

Rule 5 christians are not immune from attacks

Rule 6 christians can get lukewarm

Rule 7 christians stop listening to the Word of God and get callused.

Wow, hopefully we are past the icing on the cake phase of our walk with God and realize life is tuff. I don’t know how people get through the day without God on their side. ( other than narcotics, addictions etc).

(not sure how long this list thing is going to affect me)

God bless

church still explodes

April 22, 2013

Wow, that could mean so many different things. What actually happened is the church youth program decided to pick apples and then go to a cider press and have the apples pressed into cider and then put in plastic jugs. Then after the Sunday morning service they would sell the gallon bottles of cider for an upcoming youth retreat.

So you have to picture the church kitchen, three walls of huge glass windows and several stainless steel tables covered in about 200 jugs of cider.

I’ve just finished preaching and we are heading back to the fellowship hall when one of the deacons, with a big smirk on his face takes me by the elbow and says; “you are not going to believe what happened in the kitchen.”

As I open the kitchen door all I see are 200 hundred jugs with the caps blown off and apple colored foam covering the whole kitchen; as I walk in I slip and slide across the kitchen floor. The deacon bends over to help me up and down he goes. It’s like an episode of I love Lucy.

Here the jugs have fermented and the gas pressure blew the tops off and the jugs just bubbled up.

So now we not only have a mess but have a Pentecostal church full of hard cider for sale. I can see the headlines now.

Holy rollers brew the hard stuff, youth pastor indicted for not have a liquor license.

God bless.

18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

19 If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. 20 Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.

So God gives us all, or He can take all, depending on how we live.

As always the choice is ours.
