CAT FIGHT,

NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME HOW BROTHERS AND SISTERS CAN FIGHT IN CHURCH. HERE WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE LOVING EACH OTHER AND BEING NICE AND YET IN THE VERY HOUSE OF GOD WE CAN BE CRUEL AND NASTY.

OVERHEARD IN OUR CHURCH

A WOMAN PUTS ONLY CHANGE IN THE OFFERING PLATE AND HER BEST FRIEND SAYS; “WHAT ARE YOU, JUDAS ONLY PUTTING IN YOUR 30 PIECES OF SILVER?’

A MAN SITTING IN THE ROW BEHIND A BALD GUY IN FRONT OF HIM BRINGS A BANDANNA AND PASSES IT TO HIM AND SAYS; ‘COULD YOU PUT THIS ON THE GLARE FROM YOUR BALD DOME KEEPS ME FROM SEEING THE PLATFORM.’ (THIS WAS AFTER THE WEEK BEFORE WHEN THE BALD GUY IN THE CHURCH RESTROOM ASKED HIM IF HE TRIMMED HIS TOUPEE WITH A WEED WHACKER.

TWO LADIES THAT DON’T LIKE EACH OTHER AND HAPPENED TO BE AT THE MAIN DOOR AS GREETERS, “EVELYN YOU’VE PUT ON WEIGHT HAVEN’T YOU?” EVELYN RESPONDS BY SAYING, ITS BETTER THAN HAVING A BONY A$$ LIKE YOURS, THIS IS WHILE THEY ARE HANDING OUT THE CHURCH BULLETIN.

OR THE NEW MOM ON THE FRONT ROW, BREAST FEEDING, AND A SENIOR WOMEN (AS IN CITIZEN) BRINGS HER A BLANKET AND TELLS HER THAT HER BOOBS ARE TO BIG AND SHE NEEDS TO COVER THEM, WHEREAS THE NEW MOM SAYS; ‘YOU MEAN WHILE I’M BREAST FEEDING,’ NO SHE REPLIES, COVER THEM ALL THE TIME MY HUSBAND JUST KEEPS STARING AT THEM.

AND THEY SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR LOVE, OUCH

AND MY ALL TIME WORST, WAS THE CHURCH JANITOR STANDING IN THE MEN’S ROOM WITH A RULER, TELL ALL THE BOYS THAT CAME IN TO USE THE URINAL, ‘IF YOU CAN’T AIM STRAIGHT I’M GOING TO WHACK YOU WITH THE RULER.’

SOME OF THOSE BOYS ARE SCARRED FOR LIFE.

CHURCH FOLK GOT TO LOVE THEM. (PASS THE ASPIRIN PLEASE)

SUGAR BOOGER LOVIN

SOUNDS RIDICULOUS DOESN’T IT, BUT WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID AND ON RARE OCCASIONS VISIT MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER I WOULD RUSH IN AND SHE WOULD EXCLAIM; ‘GIVE ME SOME SUGAR BOOGER’ AND WE WOULD RUB NOSES .

ITS ONE OF MY FEW HAPPY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, THIS WAS A WOMAN THAT WAS A CAMP COOK ON THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD, AND THEN A CAMP COOK IN A LUMBER MILL. BROAD AS A LINEBACKER, WRISTS AS BIG AS MY BICEPS (WHICH ARE HUGE). I’VE SEEN HER KNOCK OUT A GUY WITH A FRYING PAN.

YET TO ME SHE WAS ALWAYS ABOUT LOVE AND COOKING, WHICH TO HER WERE SYNONYMOUS.

WHICH BRINGS US TO OUR BIBLE VERSE, EPHESIANS 1:4-5

 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he[a] predestined us for adoption to sonship[b] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—

IF YOU READ THE TRANSLATOR NOTES IN VARIOUS MANUSCRIPTS AND BIBLE TEXTS, THERE IS AN INTERESTING COMMENT, YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THAT IN THE ORIGINAL GREEK THERE ARE NO PUNCTUATION MARKS AND NO CHAPTER AND VERSES LIKE WHAT WE READ TODAY.

THE PHRASE IN BETWEEN 4 AND 5 ‘IN LOVE’ IS SOMETIMES PUNCTUATED AS THE END OF VERSE 4 AND MORE OFTEN AS THE BEGINNING OF VERSE 5.

SOME TRANSLATORS SUGGEST IT CAN BE USED TWICE. ‘WE ARE HOLY AND BLAMELESS IN HIS SIGHT IN LOVE’, AND AS IT IS USED IN THE NIV, ‘IN LOVE WE ARE PREDESTINED.’

THE POINT IS ALL THAT HE HAS DONE FOR US IS BASED ON HIS MOTIVATION TO LOVE US. HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT.

AS A PERSON THAT STRUGGLES WITH TO MANY GHOSTS FROM THE PAST IT IS SOMETIMES HARD FOR ME TO REMEMBER HOW MUCH GOD LOVES ME. IT IS VERSES LIKE THIS THAT REMIND OF HIS LOVE AND HOW GREAT IT IS.

SO YOU READY FOR SOME SUGAR BOOGER?

GOD BLESS

billy badass

May 29, 2013

Long ago and far away I used to be a badass. A 1%, if you don’t know that term, it means an outlaw biker gang. I was not patched, not a full member, had to pass initiation, pay my dues, prove my worth.

Simple task, steal a motorcycle from another gang, no problem. Stole the bike and got caught, by all persons my grandmother, doesn’t sound so bad, except you don’t know my grandmother, I’ve literally seen full blown, fully patched bikers back up and humbly say; ‘yes ma’m I sorry it won’t happen again.’

She has slapped a biker, broke a finger of one, pulled a pistol on one and yet they all loved her, her home was a haven for everyone. When someone got out of prison her house the first place they would go. She would ask what their favorite meal was and she would fix it.

While I was in the military she would call and say so and so stopped by, I hadn’t even heard from them but they stayed in touch with her.

So being ‘caught’ by her was a big deal, and taking the bike back to this other gang didn’t sit well with anybody, I paid a high price from both parties, extreme punishment and some major pay back. The cost was way to high.

Galations 6:1

Brethren, even if [a]anyone is caught in any trespass….

That’s what caught means in this verse, it’s not a rumor, it’s not false accusations it’s the reality of being discovered in the act. The spotlight of shame, guilt, and judgment are real, there is a price to pay.

Who ever this believer was in Galations was just that, caught red handed, no doubt, no way to lie his way out of the situation, guilty, found out, exposed.

And yet we are to take this believer who has fallen and been literally ‘caught’ in the act and minister to him, restore him back into fellowship with God and with the family of God. Not an easy task with some, because we can feel betrayed, or be filled with righteous indignation, or a proud haughty spirit, because we’ve never been in that situation.

As someone who to often has been ‘caught’ before salvation and after, and have to face the consequences I’ve been fortunate that those who loved the Lord with all their heart also loved me and sternly but with love brought me back into fellowship. It is a mark of maturity to be able to do that kind of ministry and not throw the baby out with the bath water.

Restoration is an important part of the Christian ministry, I have to believe in the timing of this devotion to help someone be cautious about being judgmental and condemning because of the pain and or shock after what a fellow believer did, but we have to help them recover and walk again in the light.

God bless

you’re a snot

Galatians 6:3 (new living translation)

If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important

It’s all about attitude, being humble will trump being snotty and arrogant any time of the day.

This is especially true when you read the first two verses, as we all fall into sin, and stumble along the way.

Being a part of the Christian family (not apart) it is our duty to help one another and to be gracious, loving and patient.

Snotty is not a gift of the Spirit.

(contrary to opinion I can write something short )

ONLY AT CHURCH

ONE MORNING WE HAD A DUTCH PASTOR, AND HE WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS DUTCH THINKING AND HIS ENGLISH WORDS. HE WAS TRYING TO SAY HOW WE ARE WASHED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE ONLY WORD HE COULD THINK OF WAS THE WORD ‘DOUCHE’.

SO HE KEPT SAYING HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT DOUCHED US, AND HE TOTALLY MISREAD THE REACTION OF THE CONGREGATION AND KEPT SAYING IT LIKE IT WAS A GRAND AND NOVEL IDEA; EVENTUALLY HIS ENGLISH WIFE WALKED UP AND TOLD HIM THE RIGHT WORD.

THAT SUNDAY NIGHT WE HIT ANOTHER HOME RUN WITH MURDERING THE KINGS ENGLISH. I WAS ANNOUNCING OUR UPCOMING SPECIAL SPEAKER NIGHT AND HOW WE WERE ENCOURAGING EVERYONE TO HELP THESE YOUNG SEMINARIANS HAVE A SUCCESSFUL EVENING DOING WHAT MIGHT BE THEIR FIRST PULPIT EXPERIENCE AND THAT SPEAKER NIGHT WAS IMPORTANT.

WELL I WILL NEVER USE THAT PHRASE AGAIN AS OUR DEAR OLD SISTER IN THE LORD CAME UP TO ME AND WANTED TO KNOW WHY I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE KEEP ‘OUR SPHINCTER’S TIGHT’, AND WHAT BUSINESS WAS IT OF MINE, WAS I COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMEONE FARTING I SHOULD DO IT PRIVATELY.

NOW I’M NOT SURE EXACTLY HOW TO MAKE SURE THAT THE MESSAGE YOU ARE PREACHING IS BEING HEARD CORRECTLY BUT I WILL HAZARD A GUESS THAT MORE THAN ONE PERSON HAS MURDERED THE KING’S ENGLISH OR BEEN MISUNDERSTOOD.

SO THE NEXT TIME YOU LOOK OUT AND SEE A CONFUSED LOOK ON SOMEONE’S FACE WHILE YOU ARE TALKING, YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK “WHAT DID YOU JUST HEAR ME SAY?”

CAN BLESSINGS AND CURSING COME OUT FROM THE SAME MOUTH, APPARENTLY IT CAN IF YOU ARE MISUNDERSTOOD.

GOD BLESS AND SPEAK UP, SOMEONE MAY NOT BE HEARING YOU.

GALATIANS 5:22-24

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. Contrasted to the acts of the sinful nature is a singlemindedlifestyle called “the fruit of the Spirit.” This is produced in God’s children as theyallow the Spirit to so direct and influence their lives that they destroy sin’s power,especially the acts of the sinful nature, and walk in fellowship with God (2Co 6:6; Eph 4:2-3; 5:9; Col 3:12-15; 2Pe 1:4-9). The fruit of theSpirit includes:

(1) “Love” (Gk agape, i.e., a caring for and seeking the highest good of another person without motive of personal gain (Rm 5:5; 1 cor 13; Eph 5:2; Col 3:14);

(2) “Joy” (greek chara, ), i.e., the feeling of gladness based on the love, grace, blessings, promises and nearness of God that belong to those who believe in Christ (Ps 119:16; 2 cor 6:10; 12:9; 1 pet  1:8; );

(3) “Peace” (Gk eirene) i.e., the quietness of heart and mind based on the knowledge that all is well between the believer and his or her heavenly Father (Ro 15:33;iTh 5:23; heb 13:20);

(4) “Patience” (gk ,makrothumia), i.e., endurance, long-suffering; being slow to anger or despair (Eph 4:2; 2Ti 3:10; heb 12:1);

(5) klndness” (Gk chrestotes), i.e., not wanting to hurt anyone or cause them pain (Eph 4:32; Col 3:12; 1 pet 2:3);

(6) “Goodness” (gk agathosunë) , i.e., zeal for truth and righteousness and a hatred of evil; it can be expressed in acts of kindness (Lk 7:37-50) or in rebuking and correctingevil (Mt 21:12-13);

(7) “Faithfulness” (Gkpistis), i.e., firm and unswerving loyalty to a person to whom one is united by promise, commitment, trustworthiness and honesty (Mt 23:23; rom 3:3;1 tim 6:12; 2Ti 2:2; 4:7; titus 2:10);

(8) “Gentleness” (Gk prautes), is., restraint coupled with strength and courage; it describes a person who can be angry when anger is needed and humbly submissive when submission is needed (2Ti 2:25; 1 pet 3:15; for gentleness in Jesus, compare Mt 11:29 with Mt 23 and Mk 3:5; in Paul, compare 2Co 10:1 with 10:4-6 and Gal 1:9; in Moses,compare Num 12:3 with Ex 32:19-20);

(9) “Self-control” (grk egkrateia), i.e-, mastering one’s own desires and passions, including faithfulness to one’s marriage vows; also purity (1 Co 7:9; 9:25; titus 1:8; 2:5).

Paul’s final comment on the fruit of the Spirit indicates that there are no restrictions to the lifestyle indicated here. Christians can —in fact, must —practice these virtues over and over again; they will never discover a law prohibiting them from living according to these principles.

THE ACTS OF THE SINFUL NATURE

No passage in the Bible draws a clearer contrast between the lifestyle of the Spirit-filled

believer and that of the person controlled by the sinful human nature than Gal 5:16-26.

Paul not only discusses general lifestyle differences by emphasizing that the Spirit and

the sinful nature are at war with each other, but he also includes a specific list of both

the acts of the sinful nature and the fruit of the Spirit.

THE ACTS OF THE SINFUL NATURE. “Sinful nature” (GREEK  sarx) pictures the human

nature with its corrupt desires. The sinful nature remains within Christians after their

conversion and is their deadly enemy (Ro 8:6-8,13; Gal 5:17,21). Those who practice the

acts of the sinful nature cannot inherit God’s kingdom (Gal 5:21). Therefore, this sinful

nature must be resisted and put to death in a continual warfare that the believer wages

through the power of the Holy Spirit (Ro 8:4-14; see Gal 5:17, note). The acts of the

sinful nature (Gal 5:19-21) include:

(1) “Sexual immorality” (GREEK  porneia), i.e., immoral sexual conduct and intercourse; it

includes taking pleasure in pornographic pictures, films or writings (cf. Lx 20:14; Mt

5:31-32; 19:9; Ac 15:20,29; 21:25; lCo 5:1);

(2) “Impurity” (Gk akatharsia), i.e., sexual sins, evil deeds and vices, including

thoughts and desires of the heart (Eph 5:3; Col 3:5);

(3) “Debauchery” (GREEK aselgeia), i.e., sensuality; following one’s passions and desires

to the point of having no shame or public decency (2Co 12:21);

(4) “Idolatry” (GREEK eidololatria) , i.e., worship of spirits, persons or graven images; trust

in any person, institution or thing as having equal or greater authority than God and his

Word (Col 3:5);

(5) “Witchcraft” (GREEK pharmakela), i.e., sorcery, spiritism, black magic, worship of

demons and use of drugs to produce “spiritual” experiences (Lx 7:11,22; 8:18; Rev 9:21;

18:23);

(6) “Hatred” (Gk echthra) , i.e., intense, hostile intentions and acts; extreme dislike or

enmity;

(7) “Discord” (Gk ens), i.e., quarreling, antagonism; a struggle for superiority (Ro

1:29; lCo 1:11; 3:3);

(8) “Jealousy” (Gk zelos), i.e., resentfulness, envy of another’s sllr.cess (Ro 13:13; lCo

3:3);

(9) “Fits of rage” (GREEK thumos), i.e., explosive anger that flames into violent words or

deeds (Col 3:8);

(10) “Selfish ambition” (Gk eritheia) , i.e., seeking of power (2Co 12:20; Php 1:16-17);

(11) “Dissensions” (GREEK dichostasia), i.e., introducing divisive teachings not supported

by God’s Word (Ro 16:17);

(12) “Factions” (GREEK hairesis) , i.e., division within the congregation into selfish groups

or cliques that destroy the unity of the church (iCo 11:19);

(13) “Envy” (Gkphthonos), i.e., resentful dislike of another person who has something

that one desires;

(14) “Drunkenness” (GREEK methel, i.e., impairing one’s mental or physical control by

alcoholic drink;

(15) “Orgies” (GREEK komos), i.e., excessive feasting and revelry; a party spirit involving

alcohol, drugs, sex, or the like.

Galatians 5:1

New International Version (NIV)

Freedom in Christ

5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

VS.

Galatians 2:4

New International Version (NIV)

This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves.

OK, I AM FLOORED EVERY TIME I READ GALATIONS 2:4; FALSE BELIEVERS HAVE ENTERED THE CHURCH, AND WITH ENVY, MALICE, AND SPITE; BECAUSE OF THE FREEDOM CHRIST HAS GIVEN US, WANT TO MAKE US SLAVES AGAIN.

NOW DON’T THINK THIS WAS A ONE TIME EVENT AND HAS NEVER HAPPENED SINCE THEN.

TODAY PERHAPS IN YOUR VERY CHURCH SOMEONE IS TEACHING OR PREACHING OR LEADING YOU INTO SOME FORM OF BONDAGE.

I’M ESPECIALLY CONCERNED WITH FOLKS WHO GO TO HOME BIBLE STUDIES AND SOMEONE CLAIMS TO HAVE ‘MORE FAITH’ MORE BOLDNESS, A SPECIAL REVELATION, ‘HEARD FROM GOD’ THEY HAVE A ‘SPECIAL WORD FROM THE LORD.’

PARANOID, MAYBE, BUT I SEE IT TO OFTEN, ANY BODY THAT IS NOT HELD ACCOUNTABLE CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO BE RESPONSIBLE. WHETHER YOU ARE THE PASTOR OF A MEGA CHURCH OR A SUNDAY SCHOOL LEADER; WHO WATCHES THE WOLF?

I HAD A LADY THAT EVERY SUNDAY SHE SAID SHE HAD TO TALK TO ME BECAUSE SHE HAD A ‘WORD FROM THE LORD’ JUST FOR ME AND I NEEDED TO HEAR IT. MY STANDARD RESPONSE TO HER WAS; “SISTER YOU NEED TO PRAY FOR ME BECAUSE I MUST BE SPIRITUALLY HARD OF HEARING (REMEMBER YESTERDAY’S DEVOTION), CAUSE GOD MUST BE SHOUTING SO LOUD YOU ARE HEARING IT INSTEAD OF ME”.

SERIOUSLY WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF HEARING FROM GOD WITHOUT A SPECIAL ENVOY. AND WHY IS EVERYTHING THEY SAY SEEM TO INDICATE THAT EITHER YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG, OR THERE IS A BLESSING AND YOU ARE JUST MISSING IT BECAUSE OF LACK OF FAITH, YOU JUST NEED TO BELIEVE. (AND LISTEN TO THEM).

SORRY IF I SOUND SO SKEPTICAL ITS JUST SO MANY HAVE BEEN HURT AND MISLEAD OR PLACED INTO BONDAGE, BY THESE “SPECIAL SAINTS” THEY MEDDLE, CONFUSE, AND ENSLAVE.

A GOOD PRAYER IS THAT ONE THAT ASKS THE LORD TO LET US HEAR WHAT HE IS SAYING DIRECTLY TO US, AFTER ALL HIS HOLY SPIRIT IS DWELLING INSIDE, CAN YOU GET ANY CLOSER TO GOD THAN THAT.

AN OLD CHILDREN’S SONG HAD A VERSE THAT SAID. ‘BE CAREFUL LITTLE CHILDREN WHAT YOU SAY’, WELL MAYBE WE SHOULD ADD A VERSE AND SAY ‘BE  CAREFUL LITTLE CHILDREN WHAT YOU HEAR’

GOD BLESS

huh??

May 23, 2013

HUH??

SO MY GRANDFATHER WAS VERY HARD OF HEARING, AND EVERY SUNDAY WE WOULD GET DRESSED UP AND GO TO CHURCH; WE WOULD SIT ABOUT HALF WAY BACK ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND HE WOULD GO TO SLEEP AS SOON AS THE SERMON STARTED. IF HE DIDN’T SNORE OR THROW HIS HEAD BACK WITH HIS MOUTH WIDE OPEN GRANDMA WOULD LET HIM SLEEP.

WHEN WE GOT OUT TO THE CAR SHE WOULD ALWAYS ASK HIM; “WHY DO YOU ALWAYS FALL ASLEEP DURING THE SERMON”? HIS RESPONSE WAS ALWAYS THE SAME; ‘I CAN’T HEAR HIM’.

THEN MY GRANDMOTHER WOULD SAY, “WHY DON’T WE SIT UP FRONT THEY HAVE SPECIAL HEARING DEVICES IN THE FRONT LEFT PEWS AND YOU COULD HEAR THE SERMON”. FOR A MOMENT HE WOULDN’T ANSWER AND INEVITABLY SHE WOULD SAY, “WELL”.

AND THEN CAME HIS STANDARD RESPONSE, “I GO TO CHURCH BECAUSE YOU WANT ME TO, I DON’T NEED TO HEAR THE DAMN SERMONS AS WELL”.

I’D LAUGH AND GET THE LOOK.

IT WASN’T TILL YEARS AFTER HE DIED I FOUND OUT HE WAS RAISED IN A VERY STRICT (READ ULTRA) STRICT PENTECOSTAL HOME AND CONSTANTLY FOUGHT WITH HIS PARENTS ABOUT GOING TO CHURCH.

I CAME HOME ON LEAVE IN THE MILITARY WHEN I FOUND OUT HE WAS DYING OF CANCER, AND HE ACCEPTED THE LORD. I ASKED HIM WHY HE NEVER WANTED TO LISTEN TO OUR PREACHER, HIS COMMENT WAS,” I’VE HEARD ENOUGH SERMONS IN CHURCH AND AT HOME TO LIVE ME A LIFETIME”.

WELL NOW MY WIFE AND I ARE GETTING OLDER AND WE ARE LOSING OUR HEARING, AND OUR TWO MOST COMMON PHRASES ARE, “HUH” OR ‘WHAT DID YOU SAY’.

WHICH IS HILARIOUS BECAUSE WE USUALLY MISUNDERSTAND WHAT THE OTHER ONE SAYS AND COME UP WITH THE WRONG ANSWER TO THE QUESTION.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO OUR VERSE FOR TODAY;

PSALMS 135:17 They have ears, but cannot hear….

LET’S MAKE SURE WE DON’T GET SPIRITUALLY DEAF AND MISS OUT ON THE LORD SPEAKING TO US, IT CAN BE THROUGH HIS WORD, SONGS, FRIENDS, HECK IN THE OLD TESTAMENT EVEN A JACKASS SPOKE FOR THE LORD.

MY ADVICE LISTEN BETTER, LONGER, MORE OFTEN, WHICH BRINGS ME TO AN OLD CLICHÉ; “GOD GAVE US TWO EARS AND ONE MOUTH, WE SHOULD LISTEN MORE AND SPEAK LESS.”

GOD BLESS

REMEMBER SEND YOU PRAYER REQUESTS TO SCUMLIKEUSCHURCH@GMAIL.COM

AND WE ARE HAVING ANOTHER BIBLE GIVE AWAY. TELL US HOW MANY POSTS HAVE BEEN DONE INCLUDING THIS ONE AND YOU WIN A BIBLE.

OK I’M IN A SERMONY KIND OF MOOD, SO NOT THE USUAL KIND OF FORMAT, DON’T WORRY TOMORROW WE WILL BE BACK ON TRACK.

Jeremiah 13:1-11

King James Version (KJV)

13 Thus saith the Lord unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

So I got a girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it on my loins.

And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying,

Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.

And it came to pass after many days, that the Lord said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

WHY A LINEN GIRDLE

1.IT WAS A PRIESTLY GARMENT

2. IT WAS A CHOSEN GARMENT

3. IT WAS ORNAMENTAL

4. IT WAS TO SHOW CLOSENESS

II WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GIRDLE

1.     IT IS WORN

2.      IT SURVIVED A LONG TRIP 250 MILES

3.     UNWASHED

4.     BURIED

5.     DUG UP

6.     WORTHLESS

WHAT DOES ALL THIS REALLY MEAN?

III. 1 BECAUSE OF PRIDE IT WAS RUINED

WHAT IS PRIDE, IN SHORT, PRIDE IS A SENSE OF SUPERIORITY

WHOSE PRIDE WAS AT FAULT, JUDAH WAS SUFFERING FROM NATIONAL PRIDE

JERUSALEM WAS SUFFERING FROM SPIRITUAL PRIDE

IV WHAT DOES PRIDE DO?

1.     IT RUINS

2.     IT MAKES PEOPLE WICKED

3.     DEAFENS THEM TO COMMON OR SPIRITUAL SENSE

4.     TWISTS REALITY INTO A LIE

5.     MAKES US FOLLOW OTHER GODS (INCLUDING PRIDE OF OUR OWN WISDOM.

V. WHAT GIRDLE SHOULD DO

1. CONSTRAIN

2 CLING

3. IT IS PRIESTLY SO IT SHOULD BE A GARMENT OF PRAISE

4. IT IS ULTIMATELY GOD’S SO IT SHOULD GLORIFY HIM

AMAZING THAT EVEN WHAT WE WEAR CAN BE A TESTIMONY TO GOD, NOT OFTEN DO WE THINK OF THAT.

AND NOW DAYS I’M WONDERING IF EVERYBODY EVEN KNOWS WHAT A GIRDLE IS.

GOD BLESS.
