He placed … cherubims, and a flaming sword … to keep the way of the tree of life.… Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree at life

            Gen. 3:24; Rev. 22:14

How remarkable it is that the last page of the Revelation should come bending round to touch the first page of Genesis! The history of man began with angels with frowning faces and flaming swords barring the way to the Tree of Life. It ends with the guard of cherubim withdrawn; or rather, perhaps, sheathing their swords and becoming guides to the no longer forbidden fruit, instead of being its guards. That is the Bible’s grand symbolical way of saying that all between—the sin, the misery, the death—is a parenthesis. God’s purpose is not going to be thwarted. The end of His majestic march through history is to be men’s access again to the Tree of Life.

Pray for Laura Lee as she struggles with lung and breast cancer and her husband who has dementia, today I made her day because I got her to laugh.

monkeys and pumpkins oh my

October 30, 2013

In Southeast Asia they capture young monkeys by putting a banana in a pumpkin. The monkey reaches in and grabs the banana but the hole is to small to let the monkey pull his hand out. Unless he releases the banana. The monkey is to selfish to let go.

Martin Luther wrote; “the tighter I hang on to something the more easily it slips through my fingers.”

It’s an old cliché, but it’s old and still good because it’s still true; “let go and let God.”

We hang on to many things in life, bad habits, pet sins, addictions, bad relations, all because they fill a short term need. In the long run though they will hurt us. For some it’s just a matter of not being caught. No shame, no guilt, hey why give it up.

It takes a long look in the mirror, or more time in the word of God to see the reflection of sin. Thus the true reason we don’t spend much time on self-examination or reading our bibles because we don’t like what we see or hear.

There are many excuses, I don’t go to church because it’s full of hypocrites, the last Christian I knew hurt me the worst. God hasn’t answered my prayers.

Lots of excuses, change comes from living a self-examined life. Even though you may not like what you see, God loves us and wants us to be more like his Son than anything else.

Mirror, mirror…..

Take a look make a change.

God bless.

dust in the wind

October 29, 2013

Life is short, way to short, and regardless of what people want to say or argue, eternity is real. The belief of an afterlife is pretty much hard wired into the human psyche, not matter how they choose to explain it.

Some people are making an eternal mark in heaven, a reward, a crown. While others are just marking time, their life like footsteps in the sand, soon to be washed from all human record.

Philippians 3:14

Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

14 I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.

Pray for Wanda who has just lost a husband, and a son all in one week.

Suffering as a Follower of Christ

12 My friends, don’t be surprised at the how bad things suck, that you are now finding out life is filled with crap, which is really testing your faith and blowin your mind. Don’t think that something strange is happening to you. 13 But you should be not freaking out that you are sharing in Christ’s sufferings. You will be freak’n amazed and blown away when Christ shows his glory. 14 When people say you suck to your face, because you follow Christ, consider it a compliment. When that happens, it shows that God’s Spirit, the Spirit of glory, is with you. 15 You may really totally suck, but don’t let it be because you murder, steal, make trouble, or try to control other people’s lives. 16 But if you have entered the suck zone because you are a “Christ-follower,” don’t be ashamed. You should praise God because other peoples’ life suck more than yours does.

I don’t think I can do the whole bible, but you get my point, and if you are a KJV only dude, well that sucks too!

Pray for those that are suffering and who finds their faith being tested.

drive thru religion

October 27, 2013

If we are going to receive the benefit of the cross, we must go through the suffering of the cross. That is where we come to know and appreciate the Holy Spirit as our Comforter. He comforts us in the very crucifixion He applies, and we learn to glory in the cross that crucifies. The work of the cross causes us to “rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh” (Phil. 3:3).

This is one of the main verses and reasons I’m not real big on churches that have as their primary focus; prosperity, super happiness, divine health, and super secrets only you can know $9.95.

Being a mature, obedient Christian is hard work, yes, salvation is free, and grace is unmerited. But being Christ-like, is going to kill you.

Happy dying

say what?

October 26, 2013

I was talking to a guy today and he told me he had STD, he’s 65, I asked him how in the world he got that, he looked at me like I was stupid, and said, 1st battalion 1st Marines, 66-69 Vietnam what the hell do you think I said. (he said PTSD).

I’m hard of hearing so lot’s of stuff gets mixed up.

We always need to make sure we are in good place spiritually so we can hear from the Lord. As believers we need to believe that he can speak to us, in prayer, through his word and in our hearts.

We need to always believe that as Christians we are worthy to hear from him.

The devil would have us believe that our sin deprives us of the right to hear from God, nothing could be farther from the truth.

There is a difference between hearing and listening.  Hearing is a condition, listening is a choice.

Jeremiah 10

King James Version (KJV)

10 Hear ye the word which the Lord speaks unto you…

all in the family

October 25, 2013

The modern family(not the tv show, which I’ve never seen) there is nothing like the old days of shows like; ‘father knows best’ or ‘the Donna Reed show’, how about ‘Hazel’ or any tv show from the 60’s.

The term ‘Nuclear family’ used to describe the norm, now we have all kind of traditional and non-traditional families. Two mom’s or two dads or single parents, folks just living together, kids raising kids, 9 year olds that are pregnant.

The bible mentions families and specifically names two families in particular.

It is only to those who receive Him that Jesus gives “the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). Thus we can go to God as His beloved children. So there are some that have God as their father.

Then we have;

Jesus said, “You are of your father the devil” (John 8:44). Those who father is the devil.

The children of God and the children of the devil. The former do not continue to commit sin; (unforgiven sins) the latter do. The Apostle Paul made a clear distinction between the children of light and the children of darkness (Eph. 5:8).

And so we have family squabbles, light against darkness, good against evil, I wish it were really that simple, in some ways it is. The Kingdom of God is really islands of sanity, spread thinly through the world. The Kingdom of darkness is the vast ocean of despair, crime, sin, murders, every dark act.

How well can you tread water?

The rest from insanity is found in Christ. The greatest adoption agency in the world is the family of God.

Come home.

Bourbon and love

October 24, 2013

I have a friend that comes home every day from work and the first thing he does is pour 2 fingers of bourbon and drinks it down. (No it’s not me).

His reasoning for this is surprisingly theological.

He believes he is an Evangelical Christian, but not Pietistic. Piety is loosely a belief that we are born again, saved, Christian, Full Gospel, but that there is no “works” no acts of a second nature, no need for sanctification. That any good deed we do, or “cleaning up” of our self is works, vanity, or religious superstition.

Coming from a Pentecostal background I understand his aversion to a “holiness” church movement that is prone to excess and stresses religious behavior.

There should be a balance, we act different after meeting Christ out of Love. Love for Him and the new found love we find He has for us. As Christian we are to be known mainly for our love.

How sad that a great majority of people think Christians are snobs, bigots and intolerant. That love is a four letter word that we have no real idea what it really means.

There is a theological dictionary that has 64 pages defining love.

Yes Christians can screw it up, and we often do, we need to get back to being full of love, for God and for everyone else.

Well I can’t compete with 64 pages so simply put; “love you.”

October 23, 2013

It’s not a cult, it’s not the work of a despot, nor brainwashing. But the fact is the reason for preachers to constantly put forth the concept of prayer and bible reading and going to church and devotions and meditations is simple.

Put a piece of iron in the presence of a magnetized body, and that piece of iron for a time becomes magnetized. It is charged with an attractive force in the mere presence of the original force, and as long as you leave the two side by side, they are both magnets alike. Remain side by side with Him who loved us, and gave Himself for us, and you too will become a center of power, a permanently attractive force; and like Him you will draw all men unto you, like Him you will be drawn unto all men.

But the great secret, is the cost you must pay through discipline to put in the time.

Muscle memory, they say you must do something 1500 times in order for the body to react to muscle memory. Practicing the presence of God will take the rest of your life.

Ready, start.

Pray for Charlie who lost his wife to cancer.

bad love

October 22, 2013

1 John 4:19

King James Version (KJV)

19 We love him, because he first loved us.

And now from a more modern version

1 John 4:19

English Standard Version (ESV)

19 We love because he first loved us.

One word difference, the word “Him”

Different thoughts on this, some say we are incapable of any love at all because it is not natural, we have to learn to love. Others say that until we love God we are not capable of true love.

Which brings me to my point. There is good love and bad love.

Actually that’s not true, but I’m trying to make a point.

Victimization, if you’ve been abused, hurt, raped by someone who said they love you. It’s hard to make yourself know the truth, it was never about love. It was an act of violence, selfishness on their part and love had nothing to do with it. It’s an act of betrayal.

Not being a victim, not being powerless, not feeling shame is to realize the person who committed these acts, doesn’t know anything about love.

And now, accepting love, knowing love, loving someone else in a healthy way is tough. Victims can’t love, not until they forgive the person that stole innocence and trust.

Love the person, forgive the sin, be able to love yourself and stop believing the lie that something is wrong with you, that somehow you are to blame.

Love because you can love.

God bless
