First Peter 5:8 is a well-known passage describing the strategy of Satan during this age as a roaring lion: “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” God in His wisdom not only warns us about the attacks of Satan but also provides clear instruction on how to deal with these attacks: “But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world” (1 Peter 5:9). This further explanation clarifies the way in which the Devil prowls.

Peter wrote this epistle to believers who were scattered and undergoing persecution for their faith. It was not Satan personally attacking them but an indirect assault through the cosmic system: the culture, the ideas, and the unbelievers around them whose thinking was dominated by those false, human viewpoint ideas, which are also termed demonic in James 3:15.

Many believers fail to realize that the very planet we live on is our enemy, what is not of God is of the devil. Government, music, books, societal systems, mores, everything not of God will be used of the devil. Like the fruit in the Garden of Eden it is attractive, appealing and actually seems right, but just like the fruit it will separate us from God. So is country music of the devil, yep, so is rock, blues, jazz if it’s not lifting up God it can tear you down. Am I saying lock yourself in a closet and stay away from everything, no. but ask yourself about the balance in your life. 6 hours a day of reading romance novels and 5 minutes is your bible, no balance.

We have to be a part of society so we can be salt and light, yet we don’t have to roll in the mud.

Be salty,

God bless from
