WARNINGS, CALLS TO REPENTANCE AND OBEDIENCE, THIS IS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD, HOWEVER CONSIDER THE TIMING.

NOTE:            Many warnings are coupled with promises from God to those who trust in him and serve him faithfully.

  1. The way of sin leads to death; the way of obedience to life

Matt. 7:13 – 14. Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

  1. Only those who hear and do God’s Word will have Life.

Matt. 7:21-23. Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? “Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”

  1. Jesus gave us the parable of the wise and the foolish builders.

Matt. 7:24-27. Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is life a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

  1. You will reap what you sow.

Prov. 22:5. In the paths of the wicked lie thorns and snares, but he who guards his soul stay far from them.

Prov. 11:19-21. The truly righteous man attains life, but he who pursues evil goes to his death. The Lord detests men of perverse heart but he delights in those whose ways are blameless. Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.

Gal. 6:7-8. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

  1. No one can serve two masters – God will not accept a double life.

Matt. 6:24. No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

  1. God rejects the worship of one who is living in sin.

Prov. 15:8. The Lord detest the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.

Prov. 21:27. The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable – how much more so when brought with evil intent!

Prov. 28:9. If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.

  1. If you keep ignoring God’s call to repentance, he will laugh at your calamity.

Prov. 1:24-33.

  1. The Lord cures the wicked, but he blesses the righteous.

Prov. 3:33. The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.

  1. The wages of sin is death.

Rom. 6:23. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. We are warned not to drift away from the Lord.

Heb. 2:1-3. We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.

  1. We are warned not to fall away.

Heb. 6:4-6. It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

  1. Those who have known the way but go on sinning are warned of the consequences.

Heb. 10:26-31.

Heb. 10:26-27. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgement and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

Heb. 10:31. It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

  1. Don’t harden your heart; listen to his voice today.

Heb. 3:7-15.

Heb. 3:7-8. As the Holy Spirit says: “Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart as you did in the rebellion.”

  1. On the judgment day Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats.

Matt. 25:31-46.

Matt. 25:34. Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.”

Matt. 25:41. Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”

Matt. 25:46. Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

  1. What if you gain the whole world and lose your soul?

Matt. 16:26-27. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.

  1. We will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.

2 Cor. 5:10. We must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

  1. Always be prepared for Jesus’ return, for the day and hour are not known.

Mark 13:32-37. No one know about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house in charge of his servants, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back – whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: “Watch!”

  1. Jesus gave us the parable of the ten virgins.

Matt. 25:1-13.

  1. Only those who believe in Jesus will be saved.

John 3:16-18. God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe in him stand condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

  1. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the way of the wicked. The wicked will not stand in the Day of Judgment.

Ps. 1.

  1. God’s judgment by the flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah are set forth as a warning to sinners today.

2 Peter 2:4-10.

Jude 6-7, 14-15.

  1. The history of others is recorded as a warning for us.

1 Cor. 10:11-12. These things happened to them (the Israelites) as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the age has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

  1. God punishes the guilty.

Nah. 1:1-6.

Nah. 1:2-3. The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on his foes and maintains his wrath against his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.

  1. Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.

Isa. 5:20-21. Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.

  1. One who has known the Way but turns away from the Lord will receive greater condemnation.

2 Peter 2:20-22. If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs of on the sacred commandment that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.”

  1. Unrepented sin separates one from God, so that he will not hear one.

Isa. 59:1-2. Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
