thinking over feeling

Well you know how much I love lists, so here’s the latest list

LUST

Lust is desiring anything in a compelling, cunning, luring manner. Though the word is used most often for sexual desire, it encompasses all kinds of fleshly desire.

BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

Paul lists several works of the flesh, stating that persons who practice such works will have no part in the Kingdom of God (Gal. 5:19-21). The whole Bible witnesses to the fact that persons can, with God’s help, rise above the consuming desire for such things as sex, money, possessions, and power.

  1. Eve’s sin began with lust in.

Gen 3:6. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

  1. Don’t covet.

Exod. 20:17. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

  1. Don’t think about how to gratify the sinful nature.

Rom. 13:14. Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

  1. Say no to ungodly passions.

Titus 2:11-12. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly live in this present age.

  1. Those who fulfill evil desires are objects of God’s wrath.

Eph. 2:3. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the carvings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we ar by nature objects of wrath.

  1. Christ came to save us from lust and evil desires.

Eph. 2:4-5. Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved.

  1. Don’t conform to evil desires, but be holy.

1 Peter 1:14-16. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

1 Peter 2:11. Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

  1. Live by the Spirit to overcome the lusts of the flesh.

Gal. 5:16. So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

  1. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires.

Rom. 8:5-8. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Yes, we can lead victorious lives, yes we can control our urges, yes, we can say no to sin. No matter how many times you’ve failed don’t give up.
