thinking over feeling

“Mary . . . sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard His Word. But Martha was encumbered about much serving” (Luke 10:39, 40).

“Do not look for service, look for preparation for it. Everyone has to serve an apprenticeship. We do not know what we are to be fitted for, but if we keep at His feet He will prepare us for the very thing for which He has designed us. We hinder both ourselves and His work by attempting things to which we have not been called.”

If you’ve been in church for any amount of time you’ve heard the sermon about the difference between Mary and Martha, one chose to listen and one chose to serve.

To often we choose service over the school, to many consider themselves experts, professors of whatnot, clouds without water, if you haven’t wandered lost in the desert you never can lead, or learn or be taught. In this age of instant we want sainthood the day after we get saved.

The danger of an internet college is there is no one to challenge you and call you a fool, or wrong, or incompetent. We don’t hand out grades anymore we hand out certificates of achievements.

And the danger of not sitting and waiting on God to send you out for service is you confuse being busy with actual productivity. God’s school is long and hard and very trying, no wonder we want to skip the school of hard knocks for instant spiritual gratification.

Or skip all the above and get the straight poop, sit down, shut up and listen.
