the bible

  1. Sex is God-given.

Heb. 13:4. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will

judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

    2. Fulfill your duty to your spouse.

1 Cor. 7:3. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to

    her husband.

    3. Your body also belongs to your spouse.

1 Cor. 7:4. The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same

way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.

    4. Refrain only by mutual consent; for refraining can lead to temptation.

1 Cor. 7:5. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you

may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt

you because of your lack of self-control.

    5. Find satisfaction in you spouse.

Prov. 5:18-20. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.

A loving doe, a graceful deer – may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be

captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress? Why embrace the

    bosom of another man’s wife?

Immorality refers to moral behavior (not necessarily sexual) that is contrary to God’s

Perversion refers to misuse of abuse of sex, turning away from its proper purpose, as in, for

    example, homosexuality.

Adultery is sexual intercourse with a person other than one’s spouse.

Fornication is sexual intercourse outside the marriage bond.

Immorality, perversion, adultery, and fornication are works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21). People

who engage in such practices cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. When Christians allow

improper sexual drives to exist within themselves, an inner tension results. One part of the person

will want to be spiritual while the other part tends toward sexuality. This results in

double-mindedness (James 1:8), leading to a mind completely immersed in sin (Rom. 1:28).

Disobeying God’s law will result in damage to our lives and those we involve in our sins..

Contrary to what the secular culture teaches, it is impossible to involve oneself physically

without also involving the spiritual nature of oneself and one’s partner. Trying to deny or

suppress this spiritual involvement only results in the wounding of our spirits. Thus we can be

guilty of marring the spiritual core of another person. The scars resulting from this kind of

involvement can be deep and long-lasting.

Overcoming temptations requires following God’s plan of resisting evil. If praise is offered

to God, his peace and joy fill us, and we can be released from temptation.

    1. Looking on a woman lustfully is adulterous.

Matt. 5:27-28. You have heard that it was said, “Do not commit adultery.” But I tell you that

anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

    2. Spiritual surgery may be needed to avoid immorality.

Matt. 5:29-30. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is

better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to thrown into hell.

    3. Put to death sexual immorality.

Col. 3:5-7. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual

immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the

wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.

    4. You can overcome sins of sexual immorality.

Prov. 4:23. Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

    Prov. 4:24-27. (practical instruction)
    5. Sexual sins come form the heart.

Matt. 15:19-20. Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality.

    6. Sexual immorality, including premarital sex (fornication), is described in detail as sin

against God and your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit.

    1 Cor. 6:12-20.

    7. The sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Cor. 6:9-10. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do

not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male

prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor

slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

    8. God can cleanse you from the sin of sexual immorality.

1 Cor. 6:11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified,

you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

    9. You can overcome sexual immorality through the Holy Spirit.

Gal. 5:16-18. So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful

nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is

contrary to the sinful nature. they are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what

you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

    10. All immorality is forbidden. Walk as children of light. Be very careful how you live.

    Eph. 5:3-17.

    11. Jesus can set you free.

    John 8:31-36.

    12. Purify yourself out of reverence for God.

2 Cor. 7:1. Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from

everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

    13. Christians must no longer use parts of the body for sin; one can and must change.

    Rom. 6:15-23.

    14. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is a warning for all sexually immoral people.

    2 Peter 2:4-10.

Jude 6-7. The angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own

home – these he kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgement on the great

Day. IN a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves

up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the

    punishment of eternal fire.

    15. God wants all of us to avoid sexual immorality, including premarital sex, and to learn to

    control our own bodies.

1 Thess. 4:3-6. It is God’s will that you should be holy; that you should avoid sexually

immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and

honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this

matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men

for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.

We have become overwhelmed by the so-called sexual revolution. It has been romanticized

and glorified out of all proportion. That which began in defiance of biblical principles quickly

has become the battle cry of the hedonists: “If it feels right, do it – as long as nobody gets hurt”!

How ironic this maudlin defense of immorality sound in the light of it devastating legacy to

the nation; millions of illegitimate births, shattered personalities, divorce, abortions, and rampant

sexual diseases – some of which are incurable.

God expressly forbids irresponsible sexual behavior, in order to spare us the disastrous

consequences. “The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord. . .Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:13,18, NIV).

God condemns immorality, but He offers deliverance. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, the Apostle

Paul states that none of the sexually immoral would inherit the Kingdom of God. But, he adds,

“And that is what some of you were. But you were washed (born again), you were sanctified

(cleansed), you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God”

    1 Corinthians 6:11, 12, NIV).

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. . .And if any man sin, we have and advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
1 John 1:9 and 2:1, KJV
“But sexual sin is never right: our bodies were not made for that, but for the Lord, and the Lord
wants to fill our bodies with himself.”
1 Corinthians 6:13, TLB
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto
the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
Isaiah 55:7, KJV
“Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do
evil. . .Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they
shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Isaiah 1:16, 18, KJV
